SUPPORTING POLICE IN RECORDS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
The SPIRIT (Supporting Police in Records Information Technology) Project Team was initially formed in 2004 to implement a new set of business applications, tools and automation. The main objective of the SPIRIT Project Team was to increase the effectiveness and productivity of the Niagara Regional Police Service members and ultimately a much improved service delivery to the public. In 2004, The Niagara Regional Police Service entered into a long-term service agreement with Versaterm and eJust and began the implementation of a new Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management System (RMS) and Mobile Report Entry (MRE). The eJust application introduced a new Charge Management System.
The Versaterm CAD and Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) applications went live on December 4, 2005. On February 12, 2006 the Service went live with the Versaterm Records Management System.
The Training Unit delivered a comprehensive RMS training program to all Sworn Members beginning March 26, 2006. This formally introduced the application of Mobile Report Entry and Direct Report Entry through the RMS. At this time, the Cell Officers and Charge Coordinators began using the RMS and the eJust Charge Management software.
On July 18, 2006 the Project Team initiated the management of all property in electronic form through the Records Management System. The Service formally began the transition from paper to electronic disclosure using the eJust Charge Management System on November 13, 2006.
The current role of the Project Team is to provide regular and responsive support for the existing applications and processes, manage upgrades to existing applications, optimize efficiencies and fine-tune the new business practices and process of the Service.
The Project Team is also responsible for implementing new initiatives throughout the Service.
