Congratulations! You have taken your first step towards a career as a Special Constable with the Niagara Regional Police Service.  Successful candidates are initially appointed to our Service as temporary employees.  Temporary employees are hired to contract identified Special Constable positions.  These positions will require significant training and candidates will be fully assessed to ensure he or she demonstrates the competencies required to perform all aspects of the job.  As a temporary employee, you can expect the following work environment:
  • Must be available to work all shifts, supporting a 24/7 operation
  • Flexibility to work in a variety of locations and different Units

  • Opportunity to participate in our OMERS pension plan, once you have completed two consecutive years of 700 hours of work

As a Special Constable, your duties will include:

  • Court Security
  • District Cell Security
  • Transporting prisoners to and from Court, Detention Centers, and District Cells
  • Ensuring the safety and security of prisoners
  • Maintaining administrative records

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 18 years of age
  • A Canadian citizen or legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Successfully completed four years of secondary school or equivalent
  • Possess a minimum Class G2 driver's licence
  • Keyboard and computer skills
  • Possess valid ATS Special Constable Certificate or OACP Certificate (please contact Applicant Testing Services directly at 1-800-429-7728)
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificate
  • Of good moral character and habit
