Candidates must have the following minimum qualifications to be eligible to compete for employment:

  1. A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada who is legally eligible to work in Canada.  Documented proof may be required.
  2. At least eighteen (18) years of age.  Be prepared to provide an official birth certificate, and official citizenship certificate or immigration documents indicating proof of age.
  3. Physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position, having regard to his or her own safety and the safety of members of the public.
  4. Be of good moral character and habits.  If you have been convicted of a criminal offence, you must have received a pardon.  Information concerning a pardon is available from any office of the National Parole Board of Canada.
    For absolute or conditional discharges following a finding of guilt for a criminal offence, the record must have been sealed by the R.C.M.P.  If the discharge was ordered prior to July 24, 1992 and a pardon has not been granted, you will have to apply to the R.C.M.P. to have the records sealed.  If ordered after July 24, 1992, the records are sealed automatically after one year for an absolute discharge and after three years for a conditional discharge.
    If convicted of a criminal offence as a Young Offender, then no pardon is required.   These records are automatically sealed on attaining 18 years of age.
  5. A secondary school graduate from any Province in Canada (Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent).  Note:  official transcripts and diplomas will be required at a later stage in the selection process.  For those applicants educated outside of Canada, please contact the Recruiting Unit at extension 3323 for information on how to obtain an equivalency assessment.  
  6. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a complete medical examination, conducted by a physician appointed by the Police Service.
  7. Applicants must possess a valid non-probationary drivers licence, class 'G' or its Provincial equivalent.  Your past driving record must reflect a respect for the laws that you will be required to enforce as a Constable.  You must have no more than six (6) demerit points.
  8. You must possess a current, valid certificate in First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Level C (basic rescue level), by the time the offer of employment is given.
