If your query concerns a complaint, we
would like to inform you about the Public Complaint Process.
Individual Police Services Boards are responsible locally for
establishing policy governing the administration of the complaints
process. They are required to establish guidelines for dealing
with complaints. Local boards are responsible for handling all
complaints about the Chief of Police or the Deputy Chief. The
Board also receives written reports from the Chief of Police
regarding:
- Complaints dealing with policies
or services provided by the Police Service;
- The Chief's decision not to deal
with the complaint because:
a) it was filed six (6) months after
the incident;
b) the complaint was not directly
affected by the circumstances; or
c) in the Chief's opinion, the
complaint is frivolous, vexatious or made in bad faith.
