What is the Media Liaison?

The Media Liaison serves as an intermediary between members of the media and the Niagara Regional Police Service.  The officer in this position serves as an initial point of contact for media enquiries, with information also being available from Staff Sergeants in each district of the Niagara Regional Police Service.

The Media Liaison works in partnership with the media to inform the public.  Local, national and international media outlets make numerous enquiries related to occurrences in the Niagara Region, ongoing cases, police and community initiatives, and other issues related public interest and safety.  The Niagara Regional Police Service issues advisories, suspect descriptions and missing person bulletins, asking for public assistance.  The Media Liaison works with the media to provide the community with accurate and timely information.

To deliver up-to-date information to media outlets, the Media Liaison provides valuable resources to those reporting the news.  These include recorded briefings that are accessible by phone, interviews, and media releases that are distributed via email and on our Web site.  To promote an atmosphere of fairness and accountability, these media releases are also available to the general public in the News and Media Releases section of our Web site.

Information for Members of Media Outlets

Members of media outlets require Media Identification Cards, which are issued by the Licencing Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service.  The application form for obtaining a Media Identification Card is available for download from our site.  As is the case with media releases distributed by the NRPS, this form is a PDF document, and requires a program called Adobe Reader to view.  If you do not have Adobe Reader installed on your computer, you can obtain this program through the Downloads section of our Website.
