What is the Information Systems Unit?

The Information Systems Unit (ISU) is a unit that specializes in information technology and computer service issues for the Niagara Regional Police Service.  ISU provides support to over 800 civilian and uniform computer users, who are assigned to any of 12 sites.  Its members maintain more than 300 workstations, over 20 servers, and a significant number of specialized and commercial software running on these machines.

ISU supplies a range of computer services.  While sharing in various duties, members of the unit are dedicated to specific areas of Information Technology.  We create customized applications and databases, which are written in a variety of programming languages.  We maintain and repair computer equipment, installation and upgrades of operating systems and applications, and provide initial training and continuing user support.  Our unit ensures safe and controlled access to data, by maintaining network security and utilizing some of the latest advances in network and Internet technologies.  Our staff is also responsible for this Web site, which has had 950346 visitors to date.  In short, ISU provides the ability for users to access the information they need, when they need it.
