Information & Communication Technology

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Unit is a strategic partner and contributor to Niagara Regional Police Service by taking advantage of leading-edge Technology Solutions and Services in order to enable and transform the Niagara Regional Police Service business and services while remaining fiscally responsible.

As directed by the Chief of Police and under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Information & Communication Technology is responsible for:

  • Reviewing, recommending and setting the overall technology strategy and direction in matters involving all aspects of information technology and local and wide area network infrastructure;
  • Operating and maintaining a 9-1-1 Emergency Communications centre responsible to respond to incoming 9-1-1 emergency calls, police emergency and administrative calls;
  • Developing technology standards, policies, guidelines and procedures for various Technology related matters ensuring an effective delivery of services and measurable business practices; 
  • Voice Radio and Mobile Data systems design and maintenance;
  • Maintaining and supporting the Records Management System (RMS) and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) applications
  • Maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all voice and data, video and image and wireless telecommunication systems;
  • Administering and negotiating large technical contracts, license agreements and operating permits for various technology services including design and construction projects;
  • Fostering creativity, innovation and encouraging investigation of Leading-Edge Technologies for potential use by the Niagara Regional Police Service in order to maximize efficiencies effectiveness; 
  • Delivering an effective and efficient Customer Support Service to over 1,000 members;
  • Operating and maintaining a 7x24 data centre and service-wide network infrastructure and ensuring all technology system are functioning to the standards of Public Safety requirements.
