General Assignments in the Niagara Regional
Police Service Detective Office entail conducting follow-up
investigations to thefts, robberies, assaults, and indecent acts.
Members of the Detective Office carry out all Attempt Murder
investigations, suspicious death occurrences, and conduct weapon
offences investigations. They also assist in Missing Person
searches by interviewing and co-ordinating canvasses. When cases
involve barricaded persons or hostage situations, Detectives assist in
these situations and carry out subsequent investigations.
Members of the Detective Office who
perform General Assignments work with other units of the Niagara
Regional Police Service, as well as other police services, Ministries
and agencies. They assist the NRPS Major Crime Unit as required
during Murders and other major investigations, carry out follow-up
investigations for the Coroner, prepare briefs (where necessary) for
Coroner's Inquests, and organize and assist Coroner's legal council at
inquests. They also assist the Ministry of Labour and/or the
Coroner at industrial accidents and deaths.
