Jeff Hopkins and PSD Bosco, PSD Duke.
Sergeant Hopkins is a thirty year veteran of the Niagara
Regional Police Service. He has been a member of the K9 unit since
1989 and has recently completed training his third patrol dog. His
responsibilities include the training and maintenance of our K9
Unit, and the bi-annual certification of our teams. He has had the
opportunity to train throughout North America and has assisted a
private company with the training of mine detection dogs in
Bosnia, Herzegovina. Several other police agencies in Canada and
the United States rely on Sergeant Hopkins and the Niagara
Regional Police Service K9 Unit for their training and
certification.
Sergeant Hopkins is responsible for the care and deployment of
PSD Duke. Duke is a seven year old yellow Labrador retriever used
solely for narcotic detection. Duke is often used to conduct
narcotic searches at schools in the Niagara region and to execute
search warrants.
