  • 18 to 65 years of age
  • Be physically and mentally fit
  • Be of good moral character and habits
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Must have a Grade 12 or equivalent diploma

 

If you wish to apply to the Niagara Regional Auxiliary Police Service, contact the Auxiliary Co-ordinator for the next intake opportunity. The recruiting procedure for an Auxiliary Officer is comparable to that of a regular constable. The NRPS expects and accepts nothing less than the best.

Written Component: This inital step of the recruiting procedure consists of the GATB and a WCT. Each applicant must achieve a predetermined score at each test in order to advance in the selection process.
Physical Component: If the candidate is successful in the written test, he/she may advance to the physical test. The candidate must achieve a predetermined score in order to continue in the selection process. At this time the following table illustrates the testing but this is subject to change in the coming year.

  • 38 pushups (modified) or more

  • 37 pushups (modified) or more
  • 49 curl-ups (12cm) (Cadence of 50 beats/min)
  • 46 cm. or more in sit and reach
  • 1-1/2 mile run in 16:18 minutes or better
  • 33 pushups (modified) or more
  • 46 curl-ups (8cm) (Cadence of 50 beats/min)
  • 44 cm. or more in sit and reach

  • 1-1/2 mile run in 12:11 minutes or better
  • 49 pushups or more
  • 67 curl-ups (12cm) (Cadence of 50 beats/min)
  • 45 cm. or more in sit and reach
  • 1-1/2 mile run in 12:51 minutes or better
  • 37 pushups or more
  • 72 curl-ups (12cm) (Cadence of 50 beats/min)
  • 44 cm. or more in sit and reach
  • 1-1/2 mile run in 15:16 minutes or better
  • 31 pushups or more
  • 75 curl-ups (8cm) (Cadence of 50 beats/min)
  • 41 cm. or more in sit and reach
 

If the candidate attains the predetermined score for the physical he/she may be selected to attend an interview with several members of the Service. If successful, an extensive background check is conducted and a final decision is made with the Board. If selected to become an Auxiliary member, you will undergo an extensive training course, Once completed, you will be posted to a District for regular Auxiliary duties.
