There are days when the Auxiliary Police engage in the lighter and more pleasurable types of events, but mainly, business is very serious and can demand much of your spare time.

All of this may appear very demanding and involved. AND IT IS! But it is also a position that occupies your free hours with interest, friendship and self-satisfaction.

The many Auxiliary officers with more than a decade of service can attest to the personal rewards that can be expected.

COMMUNITY EVENTS - One of the primary functions of the officers is assisting with crowd control at parades, festivals, special occasions and events.

CALL-OUT - Officers are called out in the event of an emergency. The emergency can range from a missing person to a disaster. These emergency alerts can come at any hour of the day or night and Auxiliary officers are expected to attend, if required, as soon as possible. Only a legitimate excuse for not attending will be tolerated and an officer can be released should non-attendance at emergency call-outs be repeated.

The Chief of Police may authorize an Auxiliary member of the Police Service to perform police duties in special circumstances, including an emergency that the police officers of the Police Service are not sufficiently numerous to deal with.

PATROL - Auxiliary officers accompany police officers on cruiser as well as bicycle and foot patrols.

COMMUNITY SERVICES - Auxiliary officers are called upon to participate in program presentations dealing with crime prevention and traffic safety.
